Exmoor Walks & Rambling

The perfect place for a walking retreat Exmoor National Park offers a place to breathe, embrace the wild environment and really feel a part of nature. Take to the hills on foot with over 1000km of footpaths and bridleways, through oak woodlands, alongside rivers and across open heather-covered moorland. Check out the planned routes that pass through the National Park, or you can plan your own adventure to explore this unique landscape. North Devon Coast Path

If you would like an afternoon ramble taking you along an enchanted path leading to stunning views or you are up for a challenge, walking our "North Devon" part of the South West Coast Path will leave you spoilt for choice with so many different walks. The heritage, wildlife, geology & scenery along the way will blow you away! The South West Coast Path itself is 630 miles long and is the longest established National Trail in the country. Starting at Minehead in Somerset it runs along the coastline of Exmoor, continuing along the coast of North Devon into Cornwall. It follows the entire coastline of Cornwall, goes across the mouth of the River Tamar and continues into Devon. After running along the south coast of Devon it then follows the Dorset coastline before finally ending at Poole Harbour. Start your North Devon walking retreat here.

The North Devon Coast

The rugged North Devon coast has some of the most dramatic and spectacular walks and scenery along the South West path. Discover the many amazing walks and spectacular scenery along this part of the coastline from Lynmouth to Combe Martin, Ilfracombe to Woolacombe. With wonderful stop off points to enjoy along the way and you can walk directly from the door of your cottage. Leave your car and the world behind!

Walks around Heddon Valley

A tranquil and peaceful walk through ancient woodland, along the River Heddon, meeting the sea at Heddons Mouth, with boulders and rocks to explore set between some of England's highest cliffs. Designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, there is so much amazing wildlife to see in the Heddon Valley including otters and rare High Brown Fritillary butterfly.

Heddon's Mouth circular walk

A beautiful walk through ancient woodland alongside the River Heddon to where it meets the sea between some of England's highest cliffs. Designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the Heddon Valley is home to a variety of wildlife including otters and the rare high brown fritillary butterfly. You will find a restored 19th century lime kiln on the beach.

Watersmeet Walk

A National Trust wonder of trails through 200 acres of river, gorge and woodland there is so much to explore, with beautiful scenery and wildlife, views over the Bristol Channel, circular trails taking in the stunning North Devon Coast, gentle trails following the East Lyn River. Also enjoy a Devon cream tea at the Watersmeet Tea Room

Valley of Rocks Walk

Spectacular is the only way to describe Valley of Rocks, just a short walk from Lynton, an unusual rock formation with staggering cliff edges, woodland walks, tree-clad headlands, with wonderful views over a dramatic landscape. With feral goats living happily on the cliffs this really is a stunning walk.

Mortehoe and Morte Point

Near to Mortehoe village, the headland of Morte Point is wild in beauty and wild in sea and tide. Morte Point is a Site of Specific Scientific Interest, walk and just sit and you will hopefully be lucky to watch the seals playing and above kestrels flying in the sea breeze.

Bull Point & Rockham Bay

Visit the lighthouse at Bull Point, imagine a time smugglers and the notorious 'Mortemen', waves crashing down and passing ships looking for protection from the light. Rockham bay is lovely and secluded with rockpools to explore and sand at low tide.

Bennett's Mouth and Lee

Bennett's Mouth, is secluded with dramatic rocks and pools, stunning place to find wildlife and flowers. Lee is a little way east on the South West Coast Path.

The Torrs, Ilfracombe Walk

Illfracombe was built in Victorian times and grew as a seaside place to escape the cities, Torrs walk was built at this time and a path led up to a pavillion which is no longer there but an ideal spot for picnics and stunning views with parking.

Woody Bay Walk

With so much history this walks takes you on a journey along the 19th century carriageway, you can see for miles across the Bristol Channel, passing a Roman Fortlet and walking through ancient oak woodlands. With nature at its best you will just be mesmerized with the wildlife around you.
