Active Escapes

Operating in North Devon, Active Escape offers a variety of exciting activities. Now based at Watermouth Cove they have the use of a beautiful private coastline, locally known as little Thailand - you'll see why when you get here. They also have the use of various other locations and will always take you to the safest and best working spots of the day to ensure you have an unforgettable experience.

Cycling Off Road

Exmoor is recognised as one of the best and most challenging off-road cycling destinations in the UK. Make the most of the stunning and varied terrain with a huge network of lanes and permitted tracks, this is an incredible opportunity for cyclists to really enjoy some amazing and challenging rides. Check out the Exmoor OS Explorer Map for the routes, follow good practice and please be kind to wildlife, observing the countryside code.

Road Riding

Spoilt for choice from quiet lanes to steep valleys, you will find many routes to suit all, enjoy the clear Exmoor air and breath taking views cycling straight from your Heale Farm cottage door.

Sea Kayaking

Many parts of the North Devon Coast are virtually impossible to reach by foot so what better way than to explore this coastline from the sea. Sea kayaking is exhilarating and fun. The Bristol Channel has a notorious tidal range and with any water sport make taking to the water incredibly dangerous without the correct knowledge. Fishing

Wild rivers, clean waters, deep pools makes fishing in North Devon and Exmoor a wonderful experience for the novice to the experienced fisherman. Permit fishing is available on the East Lyn, the Barle and the Exe and a number of pools and reservoirs. Sea fishing from the rocks and beaches along the Exmoor coastline with bass, cod, whiting, conger and skate all swimming in these waters but due to the tide it can be a little hard on fishing gear and also the tide so always be sure to know the tide times if this is an adventure you wish to tackle! There are many organised Fishing trips from the harbours of North Devon at reasonable prices.

Surfing

The area has many quality spots all year round, which makes North Devon a must-surf. The consistent west facing beachbreaks mean there’s always a place to surf waves and are reliable year round, with many sheltered spots. Lynton & Barnstaple Railway

Woody Bay Station, Martinhoe Cross, Parracombe, Barnstaple EX31 4RA Just a few miles from Heale Farm is the famous Woody Bay Station, at 964 feet above sea level it is the highest railway station in Southern England and home to the only new-build American steam-engine, LYN. Over eighty years after its closure in 1935, visitors can now once again travel the only steam railway in the UK where passengers travel in Victorian railway carriages designed in the 1890’s Operated mainly by enthusiasts and volunteers they have been hard at work raising funds to extend the railway to Blackmoor, Wistlandpound and eventually to Lynton and they are ‘On Track’ to achieve this, saving a wonderful heritage railway. Please support them and visit, with new COVID-19 Guidelines in place the railway is set to open again on Saturday 18th July and advance tickets are available. A wonderful experience, taking you back in time, keeping our heritage alive! More than just a visitor attraction, it is an educational charity with a living classroom, learning and understanding the transport systems of the past and how they impacted on rural community living on the wildest parts of Exmoor. Visit the shop and tea room too with wonderful hot drinks and cakes.
